Hi all,

I am Inovra, I am working on walkie talkie app product named VoicePing: voicepingapp.com. Recently we released the open source form also to help developers around the world add walkie talkie functionality to their apps: indiehackers.com/post/free-push-to...

I am here to support Tech for Good initiatives. As I was also hoping to build one. Today I found the info in dev.to about this community. So, I hope I can be a part here. Many thanks!

I just got on this thread, so pardon the last jump-in. Do you need noise cancellation or voice clarity for the native mobile apps? How is the audio quality across different phones?

Hi @wandering_dave, the audio quality varies across different type of phones. But the worst quality is still hearable quite clear. You can check with any device you/your circles have with the voiceping free public channel. We use phone OS built-in noise cancellation, that's why the quality varies between phone type.

Hi @inovra, that's a very interesting project and I'm glad you're open-sourcing it !
Have you thought about Tech for Good uses of your walkie talkie app? Out of my head I'm thinking it could help NGOs with election monitoring or remote learning.
Anyway welcome to the community, I look forward to hearing your thoughts on Tech for Good and see what you're interested in building !

Hi @rayan the use case is very wide, since this is communication tool. Any coordination that needs communication can take benefit from a PTT app. Organizing mass, public services, government, events, etc. Even just to pickup your kids or nephews from school who is too little to use a complicated smartphone also can take benefit of this. The use cases are countless. People just need to know this tool exist so they can have tailor-made app fulfill organizations' or communities' specific needs.

Thank you for the welcome. I hope together with this community can build many impactful products along the way.
